Library Zine Issue 1

Book Week Scotland 2013

This week is Book Week Scotland (25^th November to 1^st December 2013) and we've been marking it with our competition for S1 to S3. There’s still time to take part in this competition to write a short fantasy story of no more than 300 words for which there will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes.   Alternatively, S1-S3 pupils are invited to design a bookmark which will then be displayed in the English corridor and a prize given for 1st place.  See Miss Greenhorn or Mrs Lumsden for more information and look out for posters around the school! Remember all entries have to be in the English Department or Library by the end of this week (Friday 29^th November). 

We also have the Scholastic Book Fair visiting us in the Library - come along and take a look at the great books on offer

 

500 words writing competition

The BBC have launched their 500 word writing competition. 
If you're aged 13 or under, what are you waiting for? Get writing!
The BBC want you to send them something mad, magical, mind-blowing or mysterious...
You could win yourself a pile of books as tall as Chris Evans, and 500 books for your school library!
You have until 7:00pm on 22nd February to submit your entry.

The What the Dickens? Creative Writing Competition

Scottish Book Trust is currently on the lookout for three enthusiastic writers between the ages of 14 and 17 to participate in our Young Writers Awards.

You could have the chance to be mentored by author and playwright Cathy Forde over a period of six months as well as meeting industry professionals and visiting a top London publisher.

Young Writers Conference

Save the Words!

Words themselves are on the wane, and this innovative website encourages you to Save the Words! Adopt a word and pledge to use it as frequently as you can. Don’t be a foppotee!

The Embassy of Japan is once again launching the major manga-writing competition, MANGA JIMAN 2010, with fantastic prizes and open to anyone fourteen (14)* years of age or over.

The amazing First Prize is two (2) return air tickets to Japan, courtesy of All Nippon Airways!**
The Second Prize is a fabulous TOSHIBA laptop computer.
Third Prize is a superb digital camera from RICOH UK Ltd
Runners-up will receive and a selection of manga publications, available in the UK from various UK manga publishers amongst others prizes.
The winners’ works will also be displayed in a special MANGA JIMAN EXHIBITION at the Embassy of Japan.

This competition is open to all UK residents. All creations should be original and between six (6) to eight (8) A4-sized pages in length and although entrants are free to choose their own theme, restrictions do apply, and importantly the manga should in some way make reference to nami or ‘wave’. The closing date for the submission of entries is Monday, 1 November 2010.
