My Secret Diary by Jacqueline Wilson

This book is about Jacqueline Wilson during her childhood. It goes up in chapters like one will be about her childhood the next one would be about her and her parents and another one would be about her friends at school, it also goes up to chapter 13.

I think that people should read this book because it is good and also its good to know about an authors life.

Are You Dave Gorman? by Dave Gorman & Danny Wallace

This book is about two friends who make a drunken bet to try and find 54 Dave Gormans. People who like a good joke now and then should read this book because this book is generally funny. If not then it’s all shouting and disagreement. Overall a book for the average man. by Chewin 14

The Secret Garden By Frances Hodgson Burnett

This story is about a little girl .The little girl’s name is Mary .Her parents had past away so she was sent away to stay with her uncle in Yorkshire England. Her uncle had a son called Colin. Colin's mother died shortly after his birth and his father could not look after him as he had a resemblance to his mother and they had a fear that Colin would grow up to be a hunchback like his father.

I think people should read this story because it is a good story to read it is a little sad but its good to read it has a happy ending at the end.

Boy by Roald Dahl

I am half way through reading the book “Boy”. So far it is really good and very interesting. It is about Roald Dahl when he was a kid and some of his greatest memories like going to Norway and the local sweet shop. I would definitely recommend this book as it is really enjoyable and hard to put down and probably the best book I have ever read!

Lord Loss By Darren Shan

I liked this book because all of the plot twists were exciting. You don’t seem to know what will happen next. First of a series called Demonata.

I am writing a review on Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney. In this book Greg is trying to start his own fair after seeing cheap chicken drumsticks and was fed up of the school charging extortionate prices on chicken drumsticks. When he puts up posters on the school wall a stranger accuses him on vandalism and he know is a fugitive. When he tries to go to school he is saved by the snow and closes the school but he is know trapped his house with his mum and brothers whilst his dad is enjoying a luxury hotel room. Will Greg survive?

Read it to find out as this is a fantastic book because it filled with excitement and danger if you are 10-13 years old.

The Restless Dead Edited By Deborah Noyes

The Restless Dead is a series of different stories of horror myths like zombies ,ghosts and vampires. It is a good book and I would suggest reading if your up for a good scare but I don’t really find it scary. They are a series of authors writing horror stories about different mythical creatures. Code Name: Mark Zuckerburgh

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

Reading this book made me realise that you should NEVER judge a book by its cover.

This book with it's hilarious jokes is about a boy called Greg Heffley who lives with his Mother, Father and two brothers. I would definitely recommend a book of this standard. The book starts the scene with Greg in the summer holidays but now it’s time to go back to middle school as he decides to go up for things that he will soon regret. He gets embarrassed by his best friend Rowley and that is hard while you’re trying to get your popularity up in the school. Can he survive the rest of middle school?

Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce

This book is all about a 12 year old boy, Liam, who is tall. Really tall. In fact, he is so tall that people think that he is an adult. Although that there are some disadvantages of being the size of an adult, Liam tries to get the best out of his tallness, by pretending he is actually a dad. However this backfires when Liam realizes that he might not be quite ready to be one.

I really liked this book as it was very funny and very inventive. However, I think that the ending rambles on a little and could be a little snappier. I would recommend it to people who like funny and action half packed books.

Maximum Security by Robert Muchamore

Maximum Security is the third book in The CHERUB series.

Maximum security is about two agents who are deployed in a young offender’s prison. They’re mission is to break out a prisoner and then question him.

It is full of action and drama. It is a really good book and I highly recommend it.

The Recruit by Robert Muchamore

This Amazing book is the first of the large series of breath taking teen spy books. The main character is James Choke; you join him on his life story as he runs into trouble and out of the blue is recruited to join the secret agency Cherub.

If you enjoy teen spy books or even if you hate teen spy books you will love this action rollercoaster. I found myself reading this in any free time I had and even reading this instead of play videogames or watching TV.

This book is not for younger readers (under 10) because of some bad language, but when I asked Robert why the bad language he said “it makes the book more realistic”. This is a great read and a great time filler.

JYHS Library Survey - Comments

#Shoutabout

A few of you took the time to add your comments on how we could improve the library so here is the feeback to some of the more frequently asked for changes.

42 pupils requested the school unblock Facebook/Youtube/Games - alas this is outside the school library's control however why not raise it at year group pupil councils and see if you can't get this changed.

More books, new books - the annual budget is tight (only £1500 for everything including printer ink, photocopying and pens) I'm afraid and book stock selection has to be base on supporting subject needs against reading for pleasure. Last year I added 740 new titles to our stock. On the plus side we can get books in from the public libraries - just ask.

Tell us when you get new books - that I can do and I will try and keep the shelfari link on the left of the blog updated with the latest new books. Check out the display shelves on top of the adult and teen stock - often new books will be on display there.

More seats, tables and computers - alas folks this won't happen anytime soon we have some of the best computers in the school and 70 people can be seated in here at once. Though if you feel it is an issue raise it at pupil council meetings and see if you can convince school management to look into it (there is a space issue though - not sure we can physically fit more tables into the library).

A quiet study area - from August the lower library will be for quiet study at break and lunch.

Some of you wanted me to ease the rules about coming to the library to do something and instead let you just sit and chat. The reality is that with around 1000 pupils a week using the space and only enough to let 70 sit at once, there just isn't room for people to be in here just chatting. There is high demand for seats and other pupils want to play tables games, read, use a computer, do homework, study, pick a book or play games on their phone or console quietly. Sitting and chatting could be done in other parts of the school so I'm afraid you will just have to find somewhere else to hang out.

Zoya’s Story by John Follain and Rita Cristofari.

This book is about a girl called Zoya who lives in Afganistan. She lives with her Gran and its around the time Russia started a war with Afganistan and her Gran tells her all the bad things about the Russian’s and tells her to stay away from then. It also has a few sad bits.

I think this book is really intresting and very good to read, when you start reading it you wont want to stop. It’s one of the first books I have ever read, as I usually give up with books but this one was really intresting.
