Gone by Michael Grant

"It isn't until the world collapses around you that you find out what kind of person you really are."  Looking for something exciting to read over the summer holidays? Check out the "Gone" series.

GONEReview of Gone: In a town in southern California suddenly all the people over the age of 15 disappear and the town gets sealed off from the rest of the world. The town falls into disarray so it is up to our hero Sam to restore order to the town but fear starts to spread when some of the survivors get powers.
I think everyone should read this book because it is loads of fun to read and it has got lots of action and some very good characters.

Review of the series: The Gone series is by author Michael Grant. It is about a small town where all the adults have vanished and the kids are trapped in a small town. Every kid under 15 stays in a dome. The kids must learn how to survive. Eventually other kids come and a battle starts. The books in the series are: “Gone”, which is about kids getting used to the new world; “Hunger”, which is about the kids starving; “Lies” which is about a psychopath who died in a fire, but is back for revenge;” Plague” which is about a disease inside the Dome, which the kids must fight off; “Fear” about a monster that has been hiding in the cage out to kill every last kid; and “Light” which is about Sam the main character fighting off the monster and Drake. Everyone should read this series because it is an award winning series and some of the best books I have ever read.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

The book is about a girl who feels she doesn't quite fit in and decides she wants a new life and ends up fighting the system. She also finds her true love.
It was quite well written. I liked the topics it covered and it made me think about our own society. I have also really gotten to love the characters.

Star rating *****

Insurgent by Veronica Roth

It's the second book in the Divergent series. The book is about a girl called Tris who realizes her society is corrupt and war starts to break out. Even though she is not on the Erudite side, she still tries to find a way to get an important file that reveals the history of the faction system. I liked the book but I really long for hearing her thoughts more and I don't really get to do that.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games trilogy is still in great demand in the library, especially with the latest Hunger Games movie, "Mockingjay, Part 1". If you haven't read any of the series, why not catch up now? These reviews talk about the second book in the trilogy, "Catching Fire":

Everyone should read "The Hunger Games" and "Catching Fire". The author of "Catching Fire" is Suzanne Collins and it is the second story of three books. Two people from each district who have won previous Hunger Games need to go back in the arena and fight for their lives again. The Hunger Games are games that two people from each district enter, and they need to fight for their lives, trying to find food, and kill each other until there is only one person left, or two people from the same district.  Everybody should read this book because it is really good and chapters end on cliff-hangers, so it makes you want to continue reading.

The Hunger Games are written by Suzanne Collins.  This book is set in the city of Panem. Katniss , known as ‘Katnip’, and Peeta won the first battle to death in the 74th Annual Hunger Games. This book is about the victors from the past Hunger Games leaving their families for the second time to fight to the death in the arena. A love triangle also occurs throughout the book. Everyone should read this book because it’s an award winning novel and has lots of cliff-hangers and suspense.

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

"We're here, and then we're gone, and it's not about the time we're here, but what we do with the time." The 5th Wave is coming...Check out the first book in the series:

There have been strange happenings all over the world, ranging from power outages to the deaths of millions of innocent people. The story follows a young Cassie Sullivan on her journey to find her brother, and Ben Parish, a normal teenager, whose life is changed forever when he is taken to Camp Haven.
I may have made this sound really cheesy but TRUST ME it’s not!!!!! Please read it, it is really well written (also the bit with Ben is AMAZING).
This book is the first of a trilogy and the second one comes out in summer 2014.

The second book in the trilogy, "The Infinite Sea" is coming out soon.
Divergent by Veronica Roth

The movie adaptation of "Divergent" was released earlier this month. Divergent is the first in a series of books by Veronica Roth, tipped to be the next "The Hunger Games". Why not read the book?  If you're desperate to find out what happens next,  then read the next books in the series, "Allegiant" and "Insurgent".
What is it About?
Divergent is set in the future and tells the story of Beatrice Prior (Triss). The world has separated into five factions: Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite, Candor, and Amity. Each faction is dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue, in an attempt to create a perfect society. People have to undergo aptitude tests to see which faction they belong to but Triss is told that she is divergent - she could belong to a number of factions. She is warned that she must hide this fact. Triss decides to leave her family and join the most dangerous faction, Dauntless. She struggles to get through the initiation and face her deepest fears. She makes lots of new friends and enemies in Dauntless and falls for her trainer, Four (Tobias), who has his own secrets to hide...Triss learns how dangerous it is to be divergent and starts to uncover a plot by other factions...

Why Should Everyone Read It?

This book was really exciting and some of the descriptions were heart-stopping (especially the zip-wire). I really cared what happened to the characters and can't wait to read the next instalment.
