The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

It's all about a boy who's parents are murdered one night when he's just a baby. He escapes and is adopted by the ghosts of a nearby graveyard but it appears that his parents killer isn't about to let him live happily ever after!

It won the 2010 Cilip Carnegie Medal which is voted for by librarians. Even better the illustrations are by Chris Riddell who’s work I adore (he also illustrated The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart)  but it was only this week it took my fancy. Neil Gaiman’s work is always great and interesting (I'm a big fan of his adult books) but this really is a wonderful read. I started it and genuinely couldn't put it down. I loved the ghosts in the graveyard and all their curious personalities.
