She lives in an apartment in the middle of New York. One day she comes home for a tiring day of work to find her next door neighbour’s door wide open and her lying on the floor. As Melissa walks in she could see that the back of her head was covered in blood. Mrs Friedlander was rushed to hospital and her animals were left all alone in her house. Her son is a self-loving Photographer who doesn’t care about his mum. He gets his best friend, John to pretend to be him until his mum recovers in hospital.
[SPOILER ALERT]
John and Melissa end up falling in love and get married at the end of the book. Mrs Friedlander wakes up from her coma and returns to her house to find out that it wasn’t her son who was taking care of her animals. She ends up leaving all of her money with Melissa and John when she passes away.
I enjoyed the book and I liked how it was presented in e-mail format.
