The Set-Up by Sophie McKenzie

Sophie McKenzie is one of the many authors coming to the Edinburgh Book Festival this year. Sophie has written many great books; including the Medusa Project series, the Girl Missing series and many more. Have a look at Sophie’s website for more information. This review is for the first book in the Medusa Project series, “The Setup”:

The Medusa Project series is all about four teenagers who have different psychic powers. In the first book we hear from a boy called Nico’s point of view as he discovers his special power. It has mystery in it as he discovers the other people he knows also have powers that are just emerging. There is romance as Nico tries to wow over the girl of his dreams. It is an awesome sci-fi story. I would seriously recommend this to others and anyone who likes sci-fi or if you like mystery stories. My opinion is that it has awesome plot twists, amazing characters and a fantastic plot.

Russian Roulette by Anthony Horowitz

The tenth book in the Alex Rider series, "Russian Roulette", was recently released in paperback and we're looking forward to reading this explosive prequel to the series. You can see the trailer for the book and read an excerpt on the Alex Rider website as well as reading our pupil review:
"Russian Roulette" by Anthony Horowitz is a prequel to the Alex Rider series but focuses on the life story of a Russian contract killer, Yassen Gregorovich. He has been given orders to assassinate 14 year-old spy, Alex Rider. Yassen begins to remember when he was 14 and what has happened since then. When it returns to modern times Yassen thinks of his next target and what secrets he knows about the boy’s past. This book is a gripping action and you begin to feel for the characters and Yassen’s dilemma.
