A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown

A heart-warming, true story of a little girl that never was a abandoned by her real father but she thought her mum's knew hubby was her birth father. She just woke up one day and her mum was dead. So she has to live with her dad who didn’t last fairly long so at one point she went into foster and wasn’t allowed to have contact with any family. She was sexually abused at some foster homes and ran away from the rest.
She hitchhiked, became a prostitute, took drugs and drank and that got her no where in life and if you read you will find that out. Cupcake woke up one day, after one crack binge, behind a dumpster half-dressed and more than half-dead and at that point she knew she had to make a change or die.

I really enjoyed this book, I took interest in it and I found it very interesting. It is quite disturbing sometimes but it does explain the consequences in life and how cruel some people are. I would definitely recommend this book for people who prefer non-fiction books.    It’s The Number One Bestseller.

High School Musical: Crunch Time – Stories From East High by N.B. Grace

The story is about some students who are going to sit exams but would prefer to think about the Halloween festival that is coming up. The two maim characters are trying to sort out their future and what will happen next.

I liked this book because of the story and the characters; I enjoyed what the characters got up to. My favourite part is when they sing and dance.

Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging! by Louise Rennision

I liked this book because it was interesting and what a girl would like to read about. Georgia Nicholson’s life is the same as any normal girls but she makes it disastrous. Her little sister Libby makes it worse. Georgia LOVES this boy called Robbie and his brother just moved from London with his mum. They opened an organic fruit and vegetable shop. Georgia does anything to get close to him BUT there's one problem Robbie has a girlfriend Lindsey (Slaggy Lindsay) the most popular girl in school … what will Georgia do now ?

The Chain by Keith Gray

The chain is about four people’s stories linked together by one book, which will change their lives forever. The story is full of twists and turns and was one of the best books I have read in a long time, because it’s the only book I’ve read in a long time. I loved this book because it was a short read and I liked how all the stories were linked together, while keeping the intensity meter up to awesome!

Alpha Force: Desert Pursuit by Chris Ryan

The book is about this team of people that go and search for people in the desert and they have to be cautious so they don’t get caught.

I liked this book because every chapter I wanted to keep on reading on. It was action packed with lots of good chapters and then I imagined what it was like in my head. Also it has good survival tips for when you are in a desert so you can survive with food and water and you can also find out how to make a shelter in the desert.

Pride of Baghdad by Brian k. Vaughan

The Pride of Baghdad is about a pride of lions in a zoo in Baghdad. There is a problem, the birds are saying the sky is falling but it’s actually an airstrike on Baghdad. This then causes havoc in the zoo with carcuses and debris flying everywhere, The lions are then roaming around the ruins of the city of bagdad with the army round the corner what will happen next? The lions and lionesses now have to fight for their lives…

I think that this book deserves 5 stars because it’s a very well illustrated and written book knowing now it was based on a true story. I especially like this book because the lions are so determained to find out what the hell is going on!!! I also love this book because there are many connections to war and survival in this very wartorn invoroment in this book.

Titanic 2020 by Colin Bateman

’Titanic 2020’, written by Colin Bateman, is an absolutely amazing book with mystery and adventure round every corner. It is about a boy called Jimmy Armstrong who sneaks on to the newly built Titanic looking for trouble. Unaware of the fact that the ship has left the dock he explores the boat and he meets a beautiful, spoilt, rich girl called Claire. At first they despise each other but after a while of being with each other, they fall in love. When almost the entire ship catches the deadly Red Plague, they have to struggle to survive together!

‘Titanic 2020’ is my all time favourite book as it is so exciting and gripping. When I finished a chapter I wanted to read more! It is almost impossible to put down as there were cliff-hangers at the end of each chapter. I would highly recommend this breathtaking novel to anyone! There is a second book called “Cannibal City” which I can’t wait to get and I’m sure it is as good as the first book , if not, better !

Danny the champion of the world by Roald Dahl

This book is written by Roald Dahl. This is a good book but the film isn’t. This book is about a little boy called Danny, who discovers a great way of poaching.

The book is so much better than the film because the film is boring

By, someone you don’t know

I personally think that this book is brilliant because it is adventurous and funny. This book is about a kid called Danny and he loves his dad, little does he know about his dads love … poaching. When Danny finds out he comes up with a brilliant idea of how to catch pheasants. His dad then takes him up to the woods to catch them with Danny’s brilliant plan, which works until the pheasants wake up.

If you are looking for a book that is thrilling, fun, adventurous and interesting read Danny and the champion of the world.

Midnight Rising by Lara Adrian

Midnight Rising is the fourth book in the Midnight Breed series. The Breed is descendants of eight ancient Vampiric Aliens who crashed onto earth thousands of years ago. Raping and murdering woman of all varieties, a few woman possessed a special gene that allowed there bodies to grow with the aliens child. Nine hundred years ago a society call the Order lead by Gen One, Lucan Thorne destroyed all eight. Or so they thought.

Although the first book I managed to read was halfway through the series I’m loving it anyway. I’ve never thought of Vampires being descendants of an alien race and that Adrians managed to think of it makes her original in my mind.

OP-CENTER by Tom Clancy

Great book, Tom Clancy is my favourite author and probably all ways be my favourite author he never falls to impress in his books especially this one.

An Inspiring and motivational book it tells about a group of UN peacekeepers going rogue and holding the UN and the people inside hostage. Plus it tells about America's high profile intel and technology. It is the best book I’ve ever read.

Tribes by Catherine MacPhail

Tribes is a fantastic book. It is thrilling and exciting. It shines a light on how an ordinary boy with line dancing parents ”Honey-Sue and El-Diablo”, can be attracted to a life of gangs, fighting and initiation tests. Most importantly, Kevin learns the true meaning of friendship. However, will his stupid sister Glory be too caught up in all this life of gangs and be taken in by the exhilaration of actually walking the walk of death or will she ever come back of it alive? An AMAZING book and once you start you will not be able to put it down!

By Miss Magic Xx.

Kevin is determined never to join a gang until the Tribe comes along. Will Kevin do the initiation test or will he go back to his quite old self.

You’ll have to read it to find out. This book is my favourite book I have read so far this year.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

I like the book because of the detail in it! It’s interesting …you feel, as if you’re in it being chased by vampires. Bella's boyfriend Edward was very good looking .He is a vampire in the story which is a good thing to be because he is one of the main characters. Bella is the proper main character. She is 17 years old and she moved in with her dad, went to the new school and saw a boy who only came to school once in a while. She really liked him. They started going out together and strange things started to happen. He would always sit beside her in science! He would stare at he in the hall and things started to heat up she fell in love with Edward but he didn’t feel the same way for quite a while. Then they were both in love with each other. Edward is a vampire and Bella is in danger .She can help herself though.
Read to find out what happens between them!

By Angus Sabastian!

We found the first twilight book very exciting . It is quite boring at first, but then it gets exciting halfway through . The author builds up the tension between the two main characters : Bella and Edward . The book is filled with drama ,suspense and thrill. We thought the most exciting part was when Bella gets bit in the wrist .

We think it’s a fantastic book and you should read it too.

Black Rabbit Summer by Kevin Brooks

Black Rabbit Summer is a thrilling crime story set in the grubby corners and streets, where Pete, the main character lives, along with his neighbour Raymond, who has a weird way of thinking. The story plays with your mind and is very well written. It includes murder, adventures and a teenage boy’s life gone wrong.

I really enjoyed this book! The more I read, the more interesting it came. It was a very satisfying story and Kevin Brooks should be proud to have written it.

Feasting the Wolf by Susan Price

‘Feasting the wolf’ is about two young Viking boys who dream of fighting in the Viking war machine.
They are always told tales of glory and riches so when a Viking war boat comes into port they are offered a chance they can’t refuse. 'Feasting the wolf’ is a story of war, gain and loss and is an amazing book with lots to offer.

Maximum Security by Robert Muchamore (CHERUB Series Book 3)

Jam packed with an exciting adventure, Maximum Security is definitely one of the best books I’ve read!

All about James Adams a parentless agent working for an organisation “Cherub” and going on loads of high profile missions.

This book keeps you interested throughout the whole reading and just makes you want to keep reading. This will appeal to a Teen and will make them want the whole series!

By Anon

James had done wrong again and is now being sent on a recruitment mission for CHERUB. That is until John Jones comes in to invite him another mission. James and Dave are being sent to be prisoners in Arizona Max. The Maximum Security guarded prison in Arizona. They are sent there to break out the son of the national black market dealer Jane Oxford wanted for weapons theft and black market dealing.
It is the third book in the series and the best so far. I think this book is amazing. It has excellent vocabulary and I think the story line is brilliant. My favourite part in the book is when Lauren is about to be murdered by Eugene and she quickly escapes from the murder by stabbing him with a pen.

Forget Me Not by Anne Cassidy

Just a little bit about it.

‘‘Forget Me Not’’ is about a young women called Stella Parfitt. She has left school and is planning to get a job instead of going to university but there is a horrible crime on her street. A baby girl is stolen from her crib. Her mum wasn’t home that night. Stella starts to ask questions while she over looks the investigations.
“The woods hold a dark secret.”

My opinion:

I really like this book. It’s dark, secretive, chilling and very clever. I really enjoyed reading this book and I will definite read it again and again. I am a fan of Anne Cassidy and admire her cleverness and how she combines crime, romance and mystery all together.

What does your favourite character look like?

How fun is this illustration by Craig Rousseau of Severus Snape from the Harry Potter Series by J.K.Rowling? You can see more of various artists favourite literary figure/author/character works over at 'Hey Oscar Wilde! It's Clobberin' Time!!!'

Point Blanc by Anthony Howowitz

This book is written by one of my favourite authors, Anthony Horowitz. This book is about Alex Rider, a newly recruited MI6 agent, going to a boarding school in the French Alps. All sounds good, but did you know, the head-teacher wants to dominate the world.

I would recommend this book to people who like action/adventure books as it has both these things and more!

Vist your local public library!

On the 5th of Feburary you need to support our libraries in the UK. As councils look to make savings many are cutting public and school library services. Although West Lothian haven't gone down this route many others have.

The Chartered Institute of Library Information Professionals (CILIP) have organised 'Save Our Libraries Day' and are looking for help from across the globe with a day of action in support of UK public library services.

If you think libraries are worth saving then show your support and visit your local library and take out a book.

Monday's Child by Louise Bagshawe

This book is about a 32 year old women called Anna Brown who thinks that she is ugly and plain.
She lives in a flat with Janet and Lilly who are both models. One day she meets a billionaire called Charles and they get married but she’s not sure if she really loves him. She struggles with her boss Kitty as sometimes “if you don’t have the right look then talent just isn’t enough…”

I liked this book because it is really funny and set in London, which is a really interesting city. I also like this book because Anna feels strongly that women can have a career as well as men, which I completely agree with! Although this book was aimed at older readers, I think anyone would enjoy it.

LGBT Month

There have been a number of teen suicides in the USA recently which have all been linked to the fact that these teens were reportedly bullied and harassed in part because of their sexual orientation. As a response to this the LGBT community have started a online campagin called 'It Gets Better'.

Included in the project is Chris Colfer from Glee:

The videos are great but I think my favourites was this one from a Seattle columnist Dan Savage and his husband:

Or this one from Heather in Toronto:

In it she quotes Winston Churchill - “If you are going through hell, keep going.” - she always felt this meant if you stopped you'd still be in hell but if you could just keep going something better was ahead.

It's important to remember it's not just the LGBT community but a whole pile of straight people who also don't care who you kiss (except as your friend).

If you want support, someone to talk to there are agency available in Scotland and West Lothian. Have a look at the LGBT Youth Scotland site, Stonewall's Youth Site or try the Young Scot website.
