What Might Have Been By Andrew Roberts

'What might have been' is about different times in history. It tells you what would have happened if things had gone differently, for example, if the Japanese hadn’t attacked Pearl Harbor during the Second World War. What might have happened? Would America still have joined? Or what if the Spanish Armada had landed in England, what would have happened? You don’t even need to read the whole book you could just read the subject you are interested in.

I thought the book was really good because it was interesting to know what our life would have been like if some of the events in the book had succeeded.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

I really enjoyed “Twilight” by Stephanie Meyer. I thought it was a brilliant book. The suspense was amazing and I really wanted to find out what happened. “Twilight” is an action-romance. The main character is Bella Swan, a girl who keeps her thoughts to herself and when her mother remarries and her husband’s job makes them travel Bella decides to live with her dad Charlie and ends up meeting the mysterious Edward Cullen who turns out to be a “vegetarian” vampire. I would highly recommend this book if you are a person who likes romance and a little action.

Mummy, come home! by Oxana Kalemi

This book is a true story of a mother kidnapped and torn from her children.

On the night she was kidnapped she was out with friends. When she wanted to go home her friends wouldn’t let her because they were wanting her to stay to talk to some guys, so she said ‘I need to go to the toilet’ so one of the boys pointed to some bushes so she went over with her friend Alina. She counted to 5 then she ran with her friend Alina but she couldn’t hear her running behind. She felt hands on her shoulders and and a man pushed her down. After this she was sent to the UK where she was forced into prostitution but her desire to return to her children kept her going.

I think at the end the Oxana should be a perfect mother to her children and she should just go home if she wants to go home.

By Oxana

A true story of a mother kidnapped, and torn from her children. She was only trying to good for her children. Who she loves, more than anything in the world. She was tortured, kidnapped, and sexually abused. Her husband was jailed, and she thought she’d be better off without him… when she realised, she was nothing without him. She became depressed. She wanted to make her children’s life better. And asked a friend how she became rich. She sent her to a place, where only a small village was. She met a kind lady, who took her in. then the lady who took her in, introduced Oxana to her friend, who told her they were going on a trip, and she pretended that she couldn’t make it to where they were going and her ‘friend’ sold her, to someone she didn’t know. She missed her children… she was even more depressed. She was sold, and sold, and sold. Eventually, she was sold to a man called Sergey who was nice to her, until she betrayed him..

I would recommend this to anyone, who loves a heart-breaking story. I wouldn’t recommend to any under the age of thirteen, I don’t think it’s a suitable book for a child, unless their parents have given them authorisation. It’s a very traumatising book. It’s a bit of a page turner, and hard to put down. It’s a very good book, and it’s recommended to anyone who loves page turners, and definitely be put on the best sellers list. Mommy, come home, is a non-fiction book which is saddening, and depressing. I’m sure you’d enjoy it.

Mancherster United 2010 Annual

I like the Manchester United annual 2010 because it has good pictures and lots of facts about the manager and the whole team. It tells you how they train and what they eat and how to keep healthy. Near the end of the annual there is quizzes and games to play. In the annual there are interviews from every player in the team. It also tells you how many trophies they have won in the past years. I would recommend this book to any Manchester united fan in the world.

Ghost Hunter By Michelle Paver

Ghost Hunter is about a boy and a wolf that travel up to a big ice mountain in the north of the world to save it from being overwhelmed by demons, darkness and the rage of the soul eater Eostra.

This book was the best thing I have ever read. It is full of adventure, action and tragic loses of lives. Utterly an awesome book. It is the last of the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness Collection. And also the best.

THE PIRATE’S DAUGHTER By Margaret Cezair Thomson

In the 1940 ‘s the film star Errol Flynn, who was well known for playing swashbuckling characters, landed on the Caribbean island of Jamaica. This prompted the author to weave an imaginative tale surrounding his time on the island.

The book follows the life of Ida , a local girl, and her short love affair with the actor. It then follows the life of their daughter May . Intertwined with this story is the political upheaval of a country as it gains independence from the colonial powers of the UK.

Margaret Thomson gives beautiful descriptions of the island and of the characters whom they encounter as they grow up. A sign of a good novel is when the reader wants to learn more about the characters and how their lives progress, once the book is finished,. This was certainly the case with this book.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

My favourite Puffin book of the moment is Dairy of  a Wimpy Kid. This book is genius! Full of funny cartoons and stories. It's written like a journal so it's the highlights (or should that be low lights) of Greg Heffley's life in a USA Middle School (pupils aged 11 to 14). Personally I loved the Hallowe'en story best. Easy to read and really enjoyable - no wonder it's an international bestseller and they made a movie of it recently!

Terry Pratchett’s The Colour of Magic

The Colour of Magic is the first book in the Discworld series which the author has been writing since the 1980’s. I decided to read the graphic novel. The book’s main characters are Rincewind,a failed wizard, and Twoflower, the Discworld’s first tourist.

The book starts with Rincewind being expelled from the Unseen University of Wizards after 40 years of him failing to learn even the most basic of spells. He then wonders over to the dock to jump into the water and kill himself. However Twoflower appears, who asks him for directions, Rincewind decides he should help this “tourist” when he offers him four very large solid gold coins, per day if he works as his tour guide.

Rincewind however mugs him and steals his horse and a fist full of cash but the ruler of Ankh-Morpork arrests him and decides to execute him if he doesn’t give Twoflower a good impression of the country.

I think it is one of the best books I have read and at some points is hilariously funny. I think the funniest line in the book is:

“This must be the cir-cum-fence!”
“Don’t you mean the circumference!?”
“NO the cir-cum-fence it’s the fence that runs around the edge of the Discworld!”

Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins

The story is about how life changes into a wasteland controlled by a cruel government, and there are well.. used to be 13 districts, that are treated very poorly. The main focus though, is on a girl called Katniss.

Every few years there is a “Competition” to win food supplies for their district amongst children aged 8-18 in which there names are selected on random. Unfortunately, Katniss’s sister gets chosen but she volunteers to go for her. Leaving her friends and family behind she has to go through many hardships, especially since she has to kill the other opponents to win, and the same goes for them…
What happens in the Games will change everything, all because of Katniss..

This book is a real shocker, it’ll keep you gripped on every line until the very end, Suzanne Collins got her inspiration from a very strange source (find out more here). Cleverly written and superb series, look out for the rest of the books!

Only a Mother Could Love Him by Ben Polis

I think ‘Only a Mother Could Love Him’ is a really good book it’s about a boy (Ben Polis the writer of this book now a grown man) who suffered from ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.)

Ben Polis attended 6 different schools, served (he estimates) over 3000 hours of detention, and drove his entire family into counseling. But against all the odds, with a combination of self-taught concentration techniques and sheer determination he made it through the education system to university. This is his triumphant story – and a remarkable look inside the mind of a person with Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. From his unique perspective, Ben describes what it’s really like to feel those constant inexplicable impulses, to get all that medication, to desperately want to be ‘normal’.

I would defiantly recommend this book to older readers (maybe 13 and up)

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

My thoughts of this book is amazing… It takes you deep into character. The two main characters are Edward and Bella. Bella just moved with her dad hoping for a regular time, when she meets Edward There’s a lot to come! This book is just a big adventure and most of the things Edward is able to do Bella thinks is unreal. I Definitely recommend this book to anyone. You will really enjoy it.

Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo

I have been reading Michael Morpurgo books since I was eleven years old, and every time I read another one of his masterpieces it has the exact same thrill as all the rest. There is no doubt that “Kensuke's Kingdom” is one of his best ever written.

The story first takes off when Michael and his family start their dazzling adventure attempting to travel around the world in their brand new boat, the “Peggy Sue”. But when his parents are sleeping, Michael goes out to retrieve his dog Stella from the deck and the boat is violently veered, before Michael can scream for help he his in the cold dark sea destined to die.

He wakes up the following morning washed up on an island in the pacific to find a plate of fish, fruit and water beside him, he is not alone.

After the weekend and they get back to school Amy, Bella, Daisy and Emma all realise that Chloe was mean and they fall out but luckily Chloe finds new friends and everyone is now much happier

Lion Boy by Zizou Corder

I think lion boy by zizou corder is the most rubbish book that I have ever read in my entire life. The blurb says is about Charlie Ashanti, a boy who can talk to cats and is on the run from a floating circus, trying to return six lions to the wilderness and rescue his parents. It is very boring and it hardly makes sense, even with though the blurb makes it sound like an easy to understand book. I would like to set fire to every lion boy book ever made! I would not recommend this book to anyone, even boring people! This is a rubbish book so don’t waste your time reading it.

Nesta becomes the centre of attention as she is gorgeous and she has an amazing body, Nesta becomes friends with Izzie but is Nesta replacing Lucy by becoming best friends with Izzie? Paddington bear was found on a railway station by Mr and Mrs Brown. He had a label round his neck which says “Please Look After This Bear. Thank You”. Paddington was sent from Peru because his Aunt Lucy had to go into a home for Retired Bears.

This book was so funny, especially when the man dropped the honey in Paddington's hat. Paddington put his Hat on his head and the honey dropped on the floor. I really liked this book, it is meant for quite small children but give it a go, you will be amused.

She is not the nicest person to begin with but as the story goes on they unravel her stories and she ends up being the best friend of Darrell! L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad

I really enjoyed this because it was a good book to get into and there is a lot of drama. What happens in the book is two 19 year old girls move to L.A. to get into a life of being ‘on the telly.’ They have to find new jobs but soon they get a chance to appear on a show of their own and they are really happy. Soon as it all kicks off they start to get a wee bit annoyed, because the cameras are everywhere with them. I would recommend this to teens and maybe 12 year olds too.
