Love Lessons by Jacqueline Wilson

Love Lessons is a book about a fourteen year old girl and her sister. Their father has been home schooling them for all their lives and their mother makes them homemade clothes but they want to find out all about a normal teenage life rather than living with their father's strict rules. So when their father takes a terrible stroke and ends up in hospital their mum decides its time for them to go to school. When they start school, fourteen year old Prue,  finds she likes the art teacher a lot and babysits his baby for him when he goes out with his wife. As he drives her home after she feels more and more feelings coming on and cant help thinking he likes her to.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was a real page turner.

HALF OF THE YELLOW SUN By Chimamanda Adichie

This book was set in Nigeria during the Civil War in the 1960s and followed the creation and demise of the state of Biafra.

The book tells the story of how the war affects the lives of 2 sisters: Olanna and Kainene , their partners and their houseboys. Life becomes difficult and they witness many atrocities as their country fights for independence. They start the story as estranged sisters and later become united in their grief.

The author leaves very little of their hardship to our imagination and makes us fully aware of the horrors of war. The reader becomes caught up with the characters and their fight to survive and we are left on tenderhooks right to the end of the book.

Blue Bloods by Melissa De la Cruz

My Favourite Book is Blue Bloods it is the first book in a series. It is about high life Vampires (Blue Bloods) that have made there mark on New York City and almost all of the most powerful people are Blue Bloods. Schuyler is a half blood that is the Daughter of Gabrielle (one of the first vampires to choose to come down to earth). She had led a normal life until she had found out about being a Blue Blood. I love this book it is amazing because it’s got so many Adventures.

Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz

I think this book is very exiting. It is about three girls called Schyler Van Allen, Mimi Force and Bliss Llewyen. Each chapter is written from a different girl’s point of view. These girls are all vampires and it follows the story as Schyler and Bliss struggle to discover the cause of strange murders while Mimi secretly works against them. There are 5 more books to follow on to this book…

Earth Day

Today is Earth Day in the northern hemisphere, and this year is the 40th anniversary of the original Earth Day.
On April 22 1970, Earth Day marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement.

So what can you do to celebrate? It's looking like a nice weekend ahead - maybe get out and do some gardening - growing your own food is really easy, lots of fun and very rewarding!
Maybe go for a bike ride or a nice walk or read up about how to help the planet we live on (see the HEALTH section in the library for books about helping the Earth)

Let's all do something to celebrate this wonderful planet we live on!

Have a great Earth Day!

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon

This book is about a young boy called Christopher; he’s fifteen and has a case
of autism. His mother died 2 years ago and he has relied on his father ever since! His next-door neighbour's dog has died by being stabbed with a pitch fork as seen by the book cover. I really enjoyed this book and I hope you do too. Read it to find out who killed the dog!

Review by Tish Hughes

This book is about a teenager named Christopher that lives with his dad and has autism, he was told that his mum had died of cancer. The story starts with the neighbours dog being murdered and Christopher wants to find out who did it, finding clues on the way about his family . This is a must read with fantastic adventures and great humour I was instantly addicted.

Conspiracy 365 - February by Gabrielle Lord

In the February edition Callum is still on the run after being accused of murder. Callum Ormond is not a killer but the police still think he is and that they can catch him. They are sure that soon he will give himself in to the police because of his energy although it is said that he is a man on a mission for the actual truth. Conspiracy 365 is set between the 365 days of the year but the real proper fact is that someone killed his father and he is NEXT!

“Twilight” by Stephanie Meyer

I really enjoyed “Twilight” by Stephanie Meyer. I thought it was a brilliant book. The suspense was amazing and I really wanted to find out what happened. “Twilight” is an action-romantic. The main character is Bella Swan, a girl who keeps her thoughts to herself and when her mother remarries and her husband’s job makes them travel Bella decides to live with her dad Charlie and ends up meeting the mysterious Edward Cullen who turns out to be a “vegetarian” vampire. I would highly recommend this book if you are a person who likes romance and a little action.
