I Read Banned Books

The banning of books happened in the past and present. In the USA between 1990 and 2000 there were 6,364 attempts to ban books. Not all of these succeded but libraries, schools and states and countries regulalry ban books for a range of reason including they promote politics, sex, violence, satanism, homosexuality, racisism, drug use, bad behaviour or alchol.

So if you fancy walking on the wild side why not try one of these outlawed books which you can borrow from the library:

Forever - Judy Blume (teen classic too racey for some)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling (promoting satanism to todays youth)

Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Caroll (China didn't approve of the talking animals

The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things - Carolyn Mackler (sexual content, anti-family, offensive language)

The Chocolate War - Robert Cormier (sexual content, offensive language, and violence)

To Kill a Mocking Bird - Harper Lee (uses naughty and racist words)

The Color Purple - Alice Walker (this has a rape scene that many feel is just too violent and sexually distrubing but despite that it's Oprah Winfrey's favourite)

Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchell (uses racist terms)

Salughterhouse Five - Kurt Vonnegut (this classic of anti-war writing is found offensive due to it's references to religion, sex, violence, language and portral of women)

Lady Chatterley's Lover - D.H.Lawrence (the last major book to be 'banned' in the UK this one was a bit too sexy for people back in 1959)
